There's No "Bull" in His Golf Game

8 Time World Champion Bull Rider, Donnie Gay, Captures ASGT Title!

Watching bull riders perform lets you know right away there's just something different that drives them to be winners. That drive paid off for eight time world champion bull rider Donnie Gay from Terrell, TX with him taking home the Indian Creek Open title, his first win on the ASGTour.

Donnie (11 Hcp) bettered second place finisher Wayne Franklin, Ofallon, IL (6 Hcp) and the rest of the field by three shots on a breezy day in Texas. His net score of just one under par 71 gave him both the winner's share of $700 and an additional $100 bonus for submitting his entry by the Early Entry Bonus deadline.

Wayne's finish put net three over par in the money and brought him a $50 Early Entry Bonus as well. As both Donnie and Wayne will tell you, it pays to get your entry in early!

Congratulations to Don on his first win! Now the question is will he ride his way to eight titles on the ASGTour too?!

Use of Partial Handicaps
Philosophies differ on the use of "partial" vs. "rounded" (full) handicaps. ASGTour advocates the use of rounded (full) handicaps as recommended and utilized by the USGA.
In an ASGTour single round event players tied for first place split the prize money of the positions for which they are tied. A USGA  tie-breaker is then used to determine an official event "Champion" who will  be awarded the champions trophy. In multiple round event "Majors" a sudden death playoff is utilized to determine the winner.
Recently, we inquired of the USGA as to their position on this subject. Following is the official response from the USGA in it's entirety:

Friday - May 6, 2011
In regard to your inquiry, prior to each round a player must convert their Handicap Index® to a Course Handicap using the Slope Rating of the tees being played.  The result is rounded to the nearest whole number (0.5 rounds up).
The USGA does not recommend using half strokes because golf is played in full strokes.  A 300 yard drive is worth the same amount of strokes as a 7 inch putt.
Course Handicap = Handicap Index® x Slope Rating / 113.

“The USGA Handicap System” manual is available to view online at,
http://www.usga.org/Rule-Books/Handicap-System-Manual/Handicap-Manual/

If you have any other questions, please feel free to call or reply. Thank you for your interest in the USGA Handicap System™.

October 8th Golf Tournament

Just a short note to remind everyone that ASGT pays out an additional $250 Sponsor Bonus to winners and guarantees all positions a 100% return of the entry paid, to players who enter by the Sponsor Early Entry Bonus Deadline and are eligible for winnings.

Typically, the bonus deadline is Midnight the Sunday preceding the event. Make sure and get your entry in by the bonus deadline so you qualify to win a $1,250 first place prize with only 16 players entered or a minimum of $1,000 with only 12 entered.

Also, remember ASGT splits all prize money to players tieing for a money position. For example, if you tie with two other players for 1st place, then the three of you would split 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize money rather all the 1st place winnings going to a single player.

This Sunday night is the bonus deadline for the Frisco Lakes Classic Championship on Oct. 8th at Frisco Lakes GC in Frisco, TX.
